Seeking advice on the Publishing Industry?

I am looking to become an Aquisition Editor, please tell me what college courses are good to take and the best way to get into the book publishing industry. (I heard it was very difficult).Seeking advice on the Publishing Industry?
I work with a small publishing company in the Pacific Northwest. You're right, it is difficult to break into the book publishing industry. I'd suggest working with a newspaper or magazine first. This will let you get some solid writing and editing experience on your resume -- while developing a sense of the field.

What has been a real asset over the last few decades is online resources like Bloomsbury, The Paris Review, the ABA and many others (see links below). They are a stunning resource in keeping an eye out for positions available across the country in the publishing business. They are also great in helping you build your network -- this is vital to a career in publishing if you want to be successful!

I'd also suggest attending as many author readings and book events as you can. C-Span's Book TV has a great event listings page where you can check out local book happenings.Seeking advice on the Publishing Industry?
The book publishing industry is very rewarding in aspects of reading, but doesn't pay well. However, to become an acquisition editor, you have to start at the bottom. Get a degree in journalism, English, or just go to monster.com or career builder, search for publishing jobs and see what education and qualifications they seek in candidates.
