How long should we wait until we seek medical advice?

My partner and I have been trying for a baby a few months now. I fell pregnant last year but ended up in a miscarriage.

My partner really wants a baby as he hasn't no children and now turned 40.

I have a 11 year old son to my previous husband, but wanting to start a family again.

How long should we give ourselves, before we consult medical advice to see if we can concieve without any problems. How long should we wait until we seek medical advice?
Buy the book (or get from the library) Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. There is also a website for it. This book details everything every woman should know about her reproductive cycle and teaches how to read your body's signals indicating when you are most fertile. I bought it out of curiosity and learned more in my 30's than I ever knew. It also helped us conceive--I had two kids, my husband had none but was told he was infertile. He was 52 when we got pregnant! I also was able to take the information in it and help my teenage daughter predict the start of her first period. There's too much there for me to describe here, but seriously, buy the book. Be sure you are beginning to eat healthy and taking vitamins, folic acid, etc. and that your husband is also in good health.

A year, no more.

I have a similar story to yours and I will share it to maybe give you some hope.....

I have an almost 14 year old daughter from my first marriage. Her father left when she was 16 months old. I am now remarried to a man who was married to his first wife for 10 years with no children, he is also 40 now. So when we married we were nto expecting children-I had been told 20 years ago I most liekly would never have any! Well, we had been married 11 months when I was scheduled for carpal tunnel surgery. I never did get my operation as I was pregnant! We now have a beautiful little boy who will be 2 this weekend. But it gets better! When he was 11 months old, we found out I was again pregnant. We now also have a gorgeous 5 month old, red-headed little girl :)

Give yourselves 6 months to a year. After that go get some help :) My best to you.
as you have already got a child your doctor will tell you , you can get pregnant you need to be trying to concieve for a year before the doctor will do anything, but saying that some doctors are better than others and will go out of there way to help you, i gather you are over the age of 30? women are more likely to find it harder to concieve after the age of 30 also are more likely to encounter problems ie misscarriage, birth defects have you ever thought of looking up on the internet how to boost your chances of fertility? the best thing to do is speak to your doctor if they say you need to keep trying to concieve then go away keep trying, if you feel your doctor is not helping you go and speak to another you can always tell them you have been trying for over a year with no joy and you never know they might priscribe something to help you on your way of having a baby, good luck with getting what you want
I am in the same situation as you. had a child 11 years ago with my exhusband. I have been trying with new partner since Sept I went to the doctors in Feb as nothing was happening. I am 36 my partner 30. I was told in England women under 35 ned to be trying 1 year and women over 35 6 months and they would start the ball rolling for me. I was lucky got seen straight away and have just started my 2nd cycle of Clomid as it seems I have not been ovulating since having the depro injection.
The doctor told me they give you fertility drugs such as clomid after a year of trying without success under 35 years old and after 6 months of trying if over 35. I would defo go see the doctor asap if anything to rule out complications such as low sperm count etc. Has your partner tried taking folic acid with you every day? I read that it is good for stronger sperm. We had been trying for 8 months with no success and last month I had my pertner taking folic acid daily. I don't know if this is why but I got pregnant, I am now 5 weeks! Oh and take evening primrose oil for the first half of your cycle- until you ovulate. Hope this helps and good luck xx
If you are under 35, try for a year - track your cycle using techniques from Taking Charge of our Fertility (book) or the website http://www.fertilityfriend.com/. You could also try an ovulation predictor kit. If you are over 35, don't go it alone for more than 6 months.

Good luck %26amp; baby dust!
In the UK the woman has to have had 3 consecutive miscarriages before anything is investigated.

Miscarriages happen for a wide variety of reasons so at this stage unless you fund the investigation yourself, I would leave it and try to put this sad incident behind you.
I think they recommend you see a specialist after 6 months if you're over 35 and after a year trying if you're under 35. Good luck!
I see from your previous question you want to know who teaches a baby to breathe air...

why not go to a few basic baby classes first before having any more?
