How soon to seek medical advice?

My husband and I are both 28 years old and are trying to conceive. He fathered one child from a previous marriage, but I have never even had so much as a pregnancy scare. I'm just curious... how long should an otherwise healthy, young couple wait before seeking medical advice with conception? What sort of tests can be run to determine fertility? How soon to seek medical advice?
Unfortunately, most infertility doctors will want you to try for a year before they will entertain doing tests, unless as a previous responder noted, there is something in your history that would indicate infertility.

The doctor will first meet with you to gain a family and medical history. They will want to run blood tests, probably insure that your tubes are open, and also do a sperm analysis on your husband. Once they have the test results, they will determine what is the best treatment available for you.

It is never easy to go through this. Try to remember that you are not alone on your journey. I know that is easier said than done, but it is so easy to become obsessed with making a baby that you lose sight on why you are doing it. :)

Good luck to you.How soon to seek medical advice?
Thank you. Good luck to you. Remember to stay strong and keep the faith! You will get through this. :) Take care.

There is no way to know absolutely whether you would have difficulty or not. However, two simple tests can be performed at this time with relatively little expense and virtually no risk to give you a partial impression. These would be the day 3 tests, (FSH, estradiol, and LH).
Usually doctors reccomend that you wait a year. Once you have tried for a year or close to that schedule an appointment with a fertility specialist by going through your ob first. Good Luck
I have been trying for 10 months, my period are all messed up, only come every 2 months. So i decided to go to the doctor. He basicly said there was nothing he could do until we had been trying for 1 year. I was a little pissed off by that response, but now I'm trying my own ways. We are both very healthy, I'm 27, my husband 25, neither of us have had a child. I have started taking ovulex, drinking decaf green tea every day, and using the clearblue easy fertility monitor.. I wish i had started all this 10 months ago, cause I think this is the month it might work out for us! Best of luck!
In general one year of trying to conceive for women under 35 and 6 months after that. They will make sure your fallopian tubes are clear and that you're ovulating. Best of luck.
Its about a year unless either of you have a medical condition that will interfere with conception. Me and my hub have just finished the tests after 3 years of trying (we didnt seek help until last year) They take bloods too check thyroid, hormone levels, ovulation and other things i have forgotten (these are taken at a precise time in your cycle) vaginal swabs to rule out infection, scans to check you have no lesions, scarring, fibroids etc. Your partners sperm is tested. I was also offered a minor op to have a good look at my tubes but i have endometriosis so my doctor needed to do this. They can check your tubes with an x ray. They take past history, menstrual cycle, previous pregnancies, illness. It was all very professional and i was made to feel at ease. Luckily our tests came back normal and i am on Clomid now so have my fingers crossed! Doctors expect anything up to a year a normal amount of time to conceive.
HI, I WOULD ABOUT A YEAR. JUST RELAX AND IT WILL COME SOON.
DON'T WAIT. JUST MAKE THE APPT. AND GO. GET IT OFF YOUR MIND. IF YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH ISSUES IT IS BETTER TO KNOW SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. IT IS MOST LIKELY JUST STRESS RELATED, THE WORRIES OF NOT BEING ABLE TO CONCEIVE HAS A LOT OF AFFECT ON YOUR BODY.
